Serendipitously Found Museum

Location: Marathon Country Park Campground; Wausau, Wisconsin
(click pictures to enlarge)

I didn't plan to visit anything special when I decided to stop here in Wausau, but I found a very nice art museum today. The name is Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. I liked the outdoor sculptures the best. They are situated to where you can see several at the same time so when ya'll look at the pictures be sure to look in the background. Most of the pictures contain at least 2 sculptures and some have 4 or 5. It was a great place to wander around on a nice day.

Now that school is in session, most of the places I visit during the week should be almost deserted. I was the only one in the museum today and it was a very peaceful place around the outside pieces. The inside exhibits were mostly pictures and a few sculptures. They were in the middle of moving some exhibits around for a big showing this weekend so some of the wings were closed. It was a good find of a museum.

My neighbors here are fulltime RV travelers. They are a nice couple from the Chicago area that made the western swing around the country this year. They plan to do the east side next year. It's always a good thing to see other fulltimers.

Tomorrow is moving day and I'll be heading west to the Minneapolis area. The weather forecast has me a bit worried. They are predicting,,,,, "thunderstorms, some severe, this evening through tomorrow evening; storms can bring downpours, large hail, damaging winds and a tornado." I'll be ready to pull out early tomorrow morning so I can start or stop as needed to try to avoid the bad stuff. I will be keeping an eye on the weather radar. I've considered staying put for another day but I'm not comfortable being under all of these tall pine trees with heavy wind predicted. Wish me luck tomorrow.

Great Herons meet you in the

Big 'cats' around the watering hole

There are at least 7 sculptures

The horse looks like it is made
out of driftwood, but it is bronze

More sculptures

Three in this picture

This is the only sculpture where
kids can touch and sit on it.

Notice the cat in the background

Just the 'cat'

Going in to the museum through
the back entrance.

The name of the sculpture with the
bear cubs playing is called,, "Boys
will be boys".

A nice picture

Another picture

The only picture from inside the
museum. Notice the outside
sculptures through the window.

The hidden garden at the museum

We liked the statues! The horse looked pretty neat. The wolf reminded us a character in a book that Mrs. McMillan read to us. The character's name was Mrs. Wolfowitz.
