Travel Day (Cherokee, NC to Statesville, NC)

Today was a travel day. I'm heading to the coast which is about 475 miles. I decided to split it up into 3 travel days with the last one being a short drive. Today I went from Cherokee, NC to Statesville, NC. After about an hour of driving, the view became noticeably different. The mountains in and around Cherokee were steep and high. Today that changed as you can see in the picture I shot through my dirty windshield.

I stopped and ate a sandwich in a nice rest area in the cool shade. Freedom and Liberty waited alone in the parking lot.

I forgot to get a picture of the campground before it got dark. If I remember in the morning, I'll take one before I pull out. Tomorrows stop will be in Wilson, NC which is a pretty good sized town. They have a Super Walmart, so I'll see how easy it will be getting my prescriptions refilled in a strange town. My son, Brandon, has been collecting my mail and will be forwarding it to me in Shawboro, NC. I plan to stay around that area for most of next week so the General Delivery mail should make it in time. I plan to explore Kitty Hawk, Roanoke Island, Cape Hatteras and even my old stopping grounds from the Navy, Little Creek, VA.

One of the good things about travel days is that I can listen to Fox News on the Sirius Radio. I haven't turned the TV on in over a week now so except for what I read online, I'm out of touch with some of the news. One of the things that touched me was what was happening in the Ukraine. People my age or older should remember the term Fifth Column Tactics and know that Russia and Putin are doing that in the Ukraine. If he gets away with it, he will not stop with there.

Kind of a boring post, but nothing much to report.

Ya'll take care of each other. Cya.

  2. Now you're really making Sam envious with where you're heading! Sam would love us to travel but i have no desire and cant leave Mandy behind. I wish all your Little Creek buddies were meeting you there! I still have a pic of a very important girl from long ago if you want me to send it general delivery to remind you!!! I remember Mom and Dad excitedly waiting for Mom's "baby" to return from your med cruise!
I check for your posts every day and enjoy reading them. Any name for your GPS yet?
