Location: Heart of Haynesville RV Park; Mansfield, Louisiana
I made it back to my homebase on Thursday. I cancelled my reservations for a two day stay at Johnson Creek COE campground on Lake O' the Pines. I actually changed my plans as I was driving to the campground. I stopped for gas at an exit on I-20. As I was fueling up, I thought to myself, "Heck, I'm only a couple of hours away from homebase and the forecast calls for thunderstorms during the next week." I quickly checked to see if it was raining at my homebase and when I saw that it wasn't I decided to head there instead of Johnson Creek. That way, I could set up camp at homebase in the dry instead of possible having to do it in a rainstorm on Saturday. Well, yesterday was Saturday and the rains came, so my decision was a good one. This three-week trip is over.
I towed Liberty 766 miles and stayed in seven campgrounds of which, five were COE's and two were National Forests. I was disappointed in both National Forest campgrounds and will not return to them. I was also disappointed in Kimbel Bend COE campground simply because I was invaded by Argentine Ants. The campground warned me of not only the possible ant problem but also the lack of a grass mowing contract. I believe the tall grass is one of the access points the ant used for their invasion. They are all gone now, I whistled "taps" for them a few days ago. The remaining COE's were great, and I would happily return to them.
My Starlink worked well and gave me a strong signal everywhere it was needed except in the heavy wooded campground at Cagle National Forest. It just couldn't penetrate the canopy to receive a strong enough, reliable signal. I also upgraded my Starlink package while on the trip. The upgrade was from $50.00 for 100 Gb of data to $80.00 for 300 Gb. I've never went over the 100 Gb but the increase of $30.00 for an additional 200 Gb seemed like a good deal. I'm still very glad I got the star link a couple of years ago.
Besides the peaceful solitude of Rayburn Park, the highlights of the trip were the learning about and exploring Washington on the Brazos, the Creation Evidence Museum and the Independent Order of the Oddfellows.
I was also privileged and honored by witnessing some great sunsets.
