This is a small, quiet campground located about a dozen miles from U.S. 287. It's not in the middle of nowhere, but it may be a suburb of nowhere. It is an official National Dark Sky park. I think there is only one other Texas state park with that designation. It means there are no artificial lights in the campground. If all of the campers leave their exterior lights off, it become perfect viewing of the night sky. However, unlucky for me, there is a near full moon tonight so I won't be able to see the Milky Way splashed across the night sky. Maybe I'll get up around 4:30 a.m. after the moon sets and see what I can see. No promises though.
Freedom and Liberty in Site #15. |
The trip highlighted the change in topography in just 200 miles. It went from lots of green trees to scrub trees and bushes. The sky was a pretty blue with puffy white clouds and the road was 90% smooth, so it was a good travel day. I usually post some pictures taken through my windshield as I'm towing. I have found these are great when looking back at past posts. They can bring up my feelings of driving down the long roads with the sweet smell of freedom in the air.
I like the large American Flags. There seems to be more and more lately. |
Many thousands of acres of hay fields. |
Texas does a great job on their divided highways. They always plan for extra room. |
More road and skies |
Occasionally a tree will pop up,,,sort of out of place |
The wind farms started about half way there |
The mounds in the distance are Medicine Mounds which are sacred to the Comanche and Kiowa Indians. |
Finally the 12 miles of two lane roads to the park. |
Copper Breaks is the home of the Official Heard of Texas Longhorns. I haven't seen any so far and may not.
Ya'll take care of each other. I'll Cya down the road.
Ok now we're following you once again! Love the parks you have stayed at on this first leg of your trip! Love the pic of our beautiful flag! Can't ever have enough! Too bad about your X chocks, but again turning around didn't make sense. Travel safely!
ReplyDeleteThanks K&S,,,, California people now,,,,uh?
DeleteOnly for the week we were at the coast! That's enough of CA for us!
DeleteThe skies with the bright white clouds in your photos are beautiful. My guess is you were distracted by your neighbors when hooking up. Luckily the things we have left behind were small things but usually when something took us out of our routine. Keep safe.
ReplyDeleteI'm still hoping it was distraction....:)
DeleteI had a couple of airplanes in the past. I still do a walkaround and use check lists.
ReplyDeleteDave
I do a walkaround too,,, and I must have just looked at the chocks but it didn't register. I'm still a little worried about it.
DeleteI am sure it was a blessing in disguise. You will now be more attentive when you "think" you are ready to leave. The 360 walk around is certainly the right idea. Just getting back in the swing. Nobody hurt all is good. I have begun the same thing on the boat.
